When did Roger Lang fall in love with Montana? It started during childhood vacations. For twenty years Lang’s parents had owned a cabin on Henry’s Lake, just 15 miles west of Yellowstone National Park near the Idaho/Montana boarder.

Lang, a native of California, had long dreamed of owning a part of the land that so touched his heart while learning to fly fish Montana’s famed trout streams during family trips to the area.

From Montana’s Mountains to the Prairies

Ranch ownership was not new to Tom Lewis, nor was his relationship with Rich and Shelby Hewitt of Seven H Land Company. Tom’s connection to the Hewitts developed as a neighbor. Rich was the manager of the Sun Ranch in southwest Montana and Tom owned a ranch next door, the Lost Fork Ranch.

In fact, it was likely years later on an elk hunting trip on the Sun Ranch that Tom mentioned to Rich and Shelby his interest in finding a property closer to his home and place of work in Great Falls, Montana, in the northwestern part of the state.

Continuing a Ranch Legacy

Donna Bausch arrived in Montana in 1938. While working as a telephone operator, she met her husband to be and married in 1940. She has been a Montana rancher ever since.

Donna’s husband, John, grew up ranching in the Madison Valley. In the early years of their marriage, the young couple leased ranches in the area and eventually bought the Bausch family ranch, part of which is still in the family today.
